What is the meaning of Kālan? That depends on how you pronounce the word.

If the pronounciation is "Kaalan" with the l as in click or cloth, then Kālan is the name of a yogurt-based dish from the state of Kerala in India. A yummy preparation indeed. Goes well with rice.On the other hand, if you pronounce Kālan as "Kaalan" with the l as in love, then Kālan is the name of the God of Death. According to hindu mythology, he takes care of your departure from this world.

Kālan is a word in my native language, Malayalam. There is no such ambiguity in the pronounciation of the two words in Malayalam, however. This is because, like all other Indian languages, Malayalam is written using a phonetic script. What You Write is What You Say.

What else do we have on this web-site?

The plan is to cover the following subjects:

  • Traditional Kerala cooking
  • Field Asymmetric Ion Mobility
  • Malayalam poetry and film songs
  • Black and White inkjet printing

I have started a series on inkjet printing and another on making a certain type of south Indian crépe. There is also a private entrance for family and friends to check out family photos and my collection of audio and video recordings. Write me an email to figure out how to get in through that entrance.

Drop in, do browse around!
